What is Rifasafe® used for?

Rifasafe® is used in hepatic encephalopathy.

How Rifasafe® works?

Rifasafe® is an antibiotic. In hepatic encephalopathy, it works by killing the ammonia-producing bacteria thereby relieving symptoms such as agitation, confusion, and muscle problems. In infectious diarrhea, it works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause diarrhea.

Common side effects of Rifasafe®

Dizziness, Nausea, Peripheral edema, Ascites (accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity), Fatigue.

What if you forget to take Rifasafe® tablet?

If you miss a dose of Rifasafe® tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
